The design proposal continues the African-Modernist ideology of the original Pyramid, developing a venue in which architecture manifests progress and optimistic future. The building is transformed into a dynamic, multipurpose civic space, which balances two ambitions: preserving Modernist heritage – the existing structure, murals and bas-reliefs – while introducing forward-looking design solutions such as solar kinetic façade. This façade reactivates the historic form by a contemporary skin, generating the energy that power building’s new function.

The programme responds to fundamental social challenges – lack of education, limited career opportunities and inadequate public health – through three interventions. The Museum of African Modernism introduces the visitors to 20th century African architectural and artistic heritage. The AI Development Hub provides infrastructure and working opportunities to young software developers. The community centre offers public learning and healthcare opportunities.
